Tips for a Safe July 4th Sun Protection
The Fourth of July means it’s time for trips to the lake or pool, fireworks displays and backyard barbecues. But, it’s also a time that can easily be marred with dangers. Protect your loved ones with the following tips and reminders for a safe holiday.
Sun protection – Limit exposure to direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a protection factor of at least 15, and reapply sunscreen often. Remember to drink plenty of water regularly, even if not thirsty. Limit or avoid drinks with alcohol or caffeine. Protect the eyes by wearing sunglasses that will absorb 100 percent of UV sunlight. During hot weather, watch for signs of heat stroke-hot, red skin; changes in consciousness; rapid, weak pulse; rapid, shallow breathing.
