Summer Hazards Part Two Playground Safety
As you settle into summer fun, we want to share some tips to make sure you and your loved ones have a safe and healthy summer. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has released an extensive list of summer safety tips for 2016, including tips for playground safety.
Playground safety – Equipment should be carefully maintained, and playgrounds should have safety-tested mats or loose-fill materials at a depth of at least 9 inches. Make sure children cannot reach any moving parts that may pinch or trap any body part. Don’t allow children to play barefoot on the playground. Be aware that metal, rubber and plastic products can get very hot in summer, especially in direct sunlight, so be sure equipment like slides are cool to the touch to prevent burns on children’s legs.
