March is Brain Injury Awareness Month and You Are Not Alone
Each year the Brain Injury Association of America leads the brain injury community in raising awareness about brain injuries by designating the month of March as a time to recognize and support the millions of Americans who live with brain injuries. This year’s theme is: Not Alone.
More than 2.5 million people in the United States sustain traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) each year, and 1 million more experience strokes and other acquired brain injuries. People living with brain injuries want the same things we all want: a good job, someone to love, a nice home, and fun in their lives. They want to be defined by who they are as people, not by the challenges presented by their injuries. As this year’s theme serves to remind them, they are not alone. Millions of brain injury victims and their families are living with the impact of injuries and focusing on treatment and recovery. Brain Injury Awareness Month helps them by working to de-stigmatize the injury, empower those who have survived, and promote the many types of support that are available.
