Deadly Food Dangers
Every day, we rely on the growers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of the food we eat to keep our safety in mind. While the vast majority do, the news is often filled with stories where the food we eat is dangerous or poisonous. How this happens varies with each incident. A common problem is salmonella. Salmonella is a tasteless bacteria that causes diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after the bacteria enters the system. In some cases it can kill you. Salmonella is usually caused by improper food preparation but contamination can occur in the growing process.
Legally, the seller of contaminated food is usually “strictly liable.” That mean the restaurant or grocery store is responsible for your illness even they just sold the defective food. This rule is designed to encourage sellers of food to make sure their products are perfectly safe.
Symptoms like diarrhea and cramps require prompt medical attention. Your doctor can sometimes test for salmonella (and other food-borne illnesses) to be sure you get the treatment you need.
If you have been the victim of dangerous food, contact Dixon Law Office. We can hold the seller and anyone else who caused your illness responsible. Call today at 888-354-9880 or click here for a free review of your case.
