The Christmas season brings many new things but one many don’t think of: extension cords.  Stringing Christmas lights over bushes, trees and homes look beautiful but getting power to the lights can be a problem.  While manufacturers have limits on the distance and wattage for use of a cord, they know users almost never follow the restrictions.

There are lots of dangers from cords.  One is from the use of frayed or damaged cords.  Any damaged cord can cause sparks, overheating, fire, even electrocution dangers.  When in doubt, damaged cords should be thrown out.  Some cords are improperly manufactured.  Manufacturers use low-grade materials or even fail to assemble the cord properly.  All present serious dangers.  Some can kill.
