Seat Belt Malfunctions

The primary function of a seat belt is to protect the wearer from imminent danger from the crash. And for the most part a seat belt does its job, creating relatively small injury as the result of a crash. But like most things in this world, sometimes seat belts do not work as perfectly as they are designed. According to Consumer Watch.com there are several ways in which a seat belt can malfunction as a result of either faulty manufacturing or user error. The first way a seat belt can malfunction is accidental unlatching, which is basically what the name entails; the seat belt fly’s off after a sudden stop which as you can probably guess is a rather unsettling reality. An example of this would be on many Chrysler models, Chrysler uses the Gen3 type of seat belt and these have been associated with accidental unlatching. A loose object (read: cell phone) or body part can hit the button and unlatch the belt during a rollover crash. The models that utilize this type of belt have since been recalled.
