Bike Laws Series Part 1 Safe Passing Laws
May is National Bike Month and that has inspired us to talk about Illinois Bike Laws and what you need to know about your legal rights as a bicyclist. Bicycle advocates have fought hard for the right to the road and continue to shape our traffic laws to better accommodate people on bikes.
Safe Passing Laws – Illinois requires that the operator of a motor vehicle overtaking a bicycle proceeding in the same direction must leave a safe distance (at least 3 feet), when passing the bicycle. The driver must also maintain that distance until safely past the overtaken bicycle.
At Dixon Law Office, we understand how dangerous the roads can be for cyclists. If you or a loved one has been injured in a bike accident, you need an experienced personal injury attorney to review your case and get you the compensation you deserve for your medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.
