Bike Laws Series Part 2 Share the Road License Plates
We continue our series on Illinois Bike Laws and what you need to know about your legal rights as a bicyclist. Bicycle advocates have fought hard for the right to the road and continue to shape our traffic laws to better accommodate people on bikes.
Share the Road License Plates – Illinois, in conjunction with the League of Illinois Bicyclists, offers Share the Road license plates. By purchasing a Share the Road License Plate, you contribute to the Share the Road Fund, and all moneys in the Fund shall be paid in grants to the League of Illinois Bicyclists, a not-for-profit corporation, for educational programs instructing bicyclists and motorists on how to legally and more safely share the roadways. Share the Road license plates are multi-year and may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less, and sport utility vehicles. Click here to view and for more information on the license plates.
